Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lake

A trek to the Base Camp of Mount Everest, world’s highest mountain (8850 m), is high on the wishlist of many trekkers. The trail leads you alongside the foot of mighty Himalaya giants, towering high above you. The views from Kala Pattar of Mt Everest, and many other seven and eight thousand peaks are just unforgettable.

After Namche Bazar you climb above the tree line quite quickly and you find yourself walking in a stunning high altitude landscape. The walk to Everest Base Camp (5364 m) from Gorakhshep should not be missed. You walk on the Khumbu Glaciar, surrounded by snow and ice. The Nuptse is so close, it looks like you can touch it. From Everest Base Camp you have a close view of the Khumbu Ice Fall, a huge wall of ice, only one of the big challenges the Everest expeditions face.

Flying in and out of Lukla (2840 m), set already amidst the Himalaya, you need about 2 weeks for the Everest Base Camp trek. The trek described below combines the trek to Everest Base Camp with a visit to the stunning Gokyo Lakes. From Gokyo you cross the Cho La (5420 m), which brings you into the Khumbu Valley in which the Everest Base Camp lies.

The region is dotted with well equipped lodges, run by the friendly Sherpa people.
